Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone has had a great holiday. Wow! The fishing has been awesome lately due to the unseasonably warm weather. Let's highlight what's happening close to home with an inshore fishing update. The Redfish and Trout bite bite has been nothing short of incredible. For those with shallow draft boats, there are plenty of legal to oversize fish in the shallow water, way back in the creeks. As the tide falls, they come out to meet up with their other fish friends, the Speckled Trout, Black Drum, and Sheepshead. Like last month, 1/4 ounce jig heads and popping corks with live shrimp will do the trick.
OFFSHORE
The offshore fishing for Wahoo and Dolphin is still really good. Talking to the big boat captains, they have been catching nice size fish from depths around 140'-170'. If you find a good color change, temperature break, or tide line, slow down, put the lines out, and give it a try. For those who like bottom fishing, you don't have to run far to catch some good table fair! I have had some great days in 75'-100', which is 15-25 miles off, a quick hop in my 24' Sea Fox Bay Boat. Big Triggerfish, Black Sea Bass, Vermillion Snapper, Cobia, and Spadefish will all be on the menu. Remember, Grouper and Red Snapper season are closed. Make sure to vent these fish you can't keep, when caught in deep water.
On a side note, I have been receiving a lot of fishing questions from new boat owners and those looking to take it to the next level. I have been thinking of offering FREE classes for inshore and offshore fishing. Please send the folks at Waylen Bay a Facebook message, or send an e-mail to dylan@waylenbaymarine.com , and let them know what you are most interested in.
Thanks Waylen Bay Marine and Sea Fox Boats for my Christmas present, a new 24 foot Viper Bay Boat! Time to go put some smiles on the new boat .
Happy New Year and Great Fishing!!
See-yah out on the water!
